Dhaka: A tragedy was averted on Monday as a Bangladeshi UAE-bound flight landed safely at the city`s international airport after one of its engines caught fire minutes after the take-off, officials said.
The private cargo aircraft of the Bismillah Airlines landed at the Shahjalal International Airport and there were no reports of casualty.
"The aircraft landed safely and there is no casualty report," an airport tower official tower who was monitoring and guiding the "unscheduled" aircraft said.
Civil Aviation Authority chairman Iqbal Khan Majlish earlier said the right engine of the aircraft caught fire in the mid-air due to a technical snag.
Rescuers, fire brigade workers, ambulances and police were kept ready at the airport.
The civil aviation authority was forced to suspend the normal flight operations for over an hour as the flight was hovering around the airport to exhaust its fuel, in line with the aviation safety rules for such situations.
