Bangladeshi national beaten to death on suspicion of theft

A Bangladeshi national was beaten to death by villagers suspecting him to be an autorickshaw lifter at a border village in Sipahijala district, about 45 km from here on Friday, police said.

Agartala: A Bangladeshi national was beaten to death by villagers suspecting him to be an autorickshaw lifter at a border village in Sipahijala district, about 45 km from here on Friday, police said.

"One Bangladeshi national, identified as Ershad Mia (35) was beaten to death at Durgapur village near the Indo-Bangla international border by the villagers on the suspicion that he was trying to take away one autorickshaw," SP (Police control) Uttam Bhaumick said.

Fazal Karim raised an alarm while Mia was trying to take away the autorickshaw of his relatives at the wee hours today. The villagers caught him and beat him, the SP said.

Mia succumbed to his injuries at about 9 am at the Sonamura hospital.

Mia was a resident of Aranyapur village of Comilla district of Bangladesh and an autorickshaw driver by profession, police added.
