Dhaka, June 24: Bangladesh has named former diplomat
Ahmed Tariq Karim, a veteran India hand as its new envoy to
New Delhi as it appointed new ambassadors to three world
capitals considered crucial for Dhaka.
Karim, a retired foreign service officer will be the new
High Commissioner to India. He would replace Liaquat Ali
Choudhury who retired last month, a foreign service spokesman
told.
Karim is currently the vice president of a private
think-tank Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI).
The new High Commissioner to India has earlier served as
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States in 2001. He had
joined the then Pakistan Foreign Service as an officer in 1967
and retired from Bangladesh Foreign Service in 1998.
He had earlier also served in Bangladesh mission in New
Delhi on a different capacity.
Dhaka also announced the appointment of career diplomat
Akramul Qader and Major General Anup Kumar Chakma as the new
envoys to the United States and Myanmar respectively.
