China to help Nepal curb Maoist insurgency

Kathmandu, July 03: China has offered assistance to Nepal in its efforts to curb the Maoist insurgency in the Himalayan Kingdom.

efforts to curb the Maoist insurgency in the Himalayan Kingdom.

''The Chinese government firmly supports the Nepal government's
efforts to restore peace and stability in the kingdom... Beijing
will provide all assistance to Kathmandu within its capacity to curb
the Maoist insurgency,'' Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Congyong
said in a statement here.

King Gyanendra will pay a ten-day state visit to China from
July nine.

“The king's visit to China will bear great significance and
have an active and far reaching impact on the Sino-Nepal relations
in the new century,” the Ambassador said.

''China is committed to be Nepal's good neighbour and good friend
in the days to come and will always support and help it, whatever
changes may happen in the international and regional scenario, the
policy will remain intact.''

Mr Wu said, ''mutual trust, equality and sincere co-operation are
the basic tenets to describe our current relations.''

The king will be accompanied by queen Komal, minister for health
Sharad Singh Bhandari and senior government officials.

This is the second state visit of the king after he paid a
six-day long state visit to India last week.
