Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will leave here for Dhaka on June 5 and join Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will formally sign the Land Boundary Agreement along with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the next day.
"I will be reaching Bangladesh on June 5 and will be back on June 6 after the signing of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA)," Banerjee had stated on Saturday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a two-day visit to Bangladesh from June 6.
During an interaction with business community today, the chief minister said the LBA between Bangladesh and India was very important for the state.
"This agreement had remained unresolved for the last 56 years. Now this is happening. It is good. It is important as thousands of Indians will come back to us".
In the exchange of enclaves, India will transfer 111 enclaves with a total area of 17,160 acres to Bangladesh, while Bangladesh would transfer 51 enclaves with an area of 7,110 acres to India.
A joint headcount done in July 2011 determined that the total population in the enclaves were 51,549, with 37,334 in Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 14,215 in Bangla enclaves within India.
To a specific query on whether there would be talks on Teesta river water sharing, she said, "That is not in the list".
