The military also foiled an attack by rebels Saturday on the water purification plant at Sundarijal, about 30 kilometers northeast of Katmandu, the only supply of drinking water to 1.5 million inhabitants of the capital.

Eleven rebels were arrested by security forces in the Khadbari village, about 320 kilometers west of Katmandu. Some arms and explosives were recovered from them, officials said.

The ministry said in a statement that it believed heavy damage had been caused to the rebels during the military raids Friday and Saturday at Jajarkot and Rolpa, about 400 kilometers west of the capital Katmandu, but details on casualties were not available.
