Kathmandu: Nepal`s government says a footbridge over a river gorge has collapsed as dozens of people were crossing it and three plunged 50 feet (15 meters) to their deaths.
Home Ministry spokesman Sudhir Shah says at least one person is missing and five others have been hospitalised with injuries.
Police say it is still unclear how the metal cables holding up the bridge snapped on Saturday over the boulder-strewn Trishuli River, famed for whitewater rafting.
The dead included an Indian citizen from Chennai who was taking photographs of the scenery from the bridge, about 60 miles (100 kilometres) west of Kathmandu.
