Nine LTTE rebels have been killed by Sri Lankan troops in separate incidents in the north-eastern Weli Oya area and Jaffna peninsula, the military said on Monday.
In the first incident, troops lying in ambush attacked a group of rebels near Parakkaramapura in the Weli Oya area on Sunday, killing six rebels. However, the rebels admitted only one death in their clandestine transmissions, a defence ministry statement said.
Two other LTTE cadres were killed in an encounter ahead of the army's defence lines in the Muhamalai Sector in the Jaffna peninsula, while another was shot dead at Mannar, it said.
Meanwhile, two soldiers were injured in mortar fire by the LTTE at Muhamalai on Sunday, it said.
