Dhaka, June 05: Bangladesh's main opposition Awami
League has called upon the people to prepare for a movement to
oust the Khaleda Zia-led government which, it alleged, had
created a crisis in the country, even as the Parliament
speaker urged the boycotting members to return to the house.
The budget session of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad
began here last evening but the 58-member-Awami
League (AL) led by Sheikh Hasina continuing its boycott that
began after last October's general elections.
Hasina, who had earlier ruled out the possibility of
joining parliament citing absence of a congenial climate,
yesterday said a crisis-like situation prevailed in the
country due to the failure of the government.
Addressing a meeting of newcomers to her party, Hasina
called upon the people to make preparations for a United
movement to Free the nation from the current crisis, the BSS
news agency said. She said, “ the government was illegitimate
and called for fresh elections.”
The budget session is expected to continue till the
middle of July.
