London: Some recent images of the Martian surface taken by NASA`s Curiosity Rover purportedly showed a craft of some kind that UFO hunters claim could be the crashed wreckage of an alien ship, a media report said.

"The craft is only about 2.5-3 metres across, so it probably only held a few passengers," Dailystar.co.uk quoted Scott C Waring as saying on ufosightingsdaily.com.

The UFO enthusiast and blogger added that since many of the figures found on Mars are about 5-8 cm tall, "we can conclude that his ship could carry about 20-40 passengers".

There is only one image of the ship, according to Waring. "The rover usually takes many of each area, but not this one. Perhaps tomorrow it will take more."

Some people have likened the alleged crashed ship to an `Imperial Star Destroyer` from the "Star Wars" movies.

Earlier this month, NASA released a photo appearing to show a female ghost on Mars.

"The woman seems to have breasts," ufosightingsdaily.com wrote. "Indicated by the shadow on its chest. "We also see two arms that are lighter in colour and what looks like a head with long hair."

Many such images in the past have been linked to a psychological phenomenon called pareidolia, which is a type of illusion or misperception involving a vague or obscure stimulus being perceived as something clear and distinct.
