New device to charge smartphone in flat two minutes

Washington: An Israeli start-up StoreDot has developed ultra-fast chargers that can charge smartphone batteries in two minutes flat.

The batteries, shown at the "Consumer Electronics Show" in Las Vegas recently, have slightly shorter lives but can still last about five hours on a two-minute charge.

"But given how quick the batteries take to recharge, doing so a couple of times a day shouldn't be a problem," the company said in a statement.

During a demonstration, the firm also showed that the bio-organic charger system which they are developing at the lab in Tel Aviv can finally recharge a smartphone battery in just 30 seconds.

"It was created by using re-building battery technology from the bottom up," Doron Myersdorf, the company's CEO, was quoted as saying in a BBC report.

The reactions that happen in the battery are entirely different from those in normal ones, and include specially synthesised organic molecules.
