Chennai: South superstar Rajinikanth paid tribute to journalist, former Rajya Sabha member, political analyst and comedian Cho S Ramaswamy, who died here on Wednedsay following illness.

Rajinikanth visited Ramaswamy's residence and offer condolences to the family.


Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah offered condolences to Cho's family, friends. "Ramaswamy's demise is a great loss to the nationalistic, democratic discourse," Shah said.


Ramaswamy was suffering from illness and breathed his last at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai today morning, where former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa breathed her last on Monday night.


The former Rajya Sabha member was the founder of the political magazine Thuglak magazine.


He had acted in many movies and featured with top actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.


Late Jayalalithaa was a good friend of Ramaswamy and used to seek his views.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jayalalithaa called on him when he was seriously ill early this year.


He has written, directed and acted in over 20 Tamil plays which were performed over 5,000 times, acted in 180 movies scripted 14 movies, directed four films.

On the small screen Ramaswamy has written, acted and directed several serials in Tamil and has also written novels.
