Contract workers taken into custody

Police said contract workers along with their family members took out a procession and when they tried to picket it they were taken into custody.

Neyveli: Hundreds of contract workers were on Wednesday taken into custody for trying to picket the Neyveli Lignite Corporation`s corporate office here even as their stir pressing for various demands entered the 40th day.

Police said contract workers along with their family members took out a procession to the NLC corporate office and when they tried to picket it they were taken into custody.

The workers are on indefinite stir since April 21 pressing for various demands, including wage revision and regularisation.
Demanding that the Union Government intervene and resolve the matter, CPI`s Tamil Nadu unit state secretary T Pandian said the party would stage statewide protests next week in support of the contract workers.
