Coimbatore: As part of its efforts to popularise the force and attract more youth, CRPF is in the process of appointing women sportspersons as brand ambassadors, a top official said on Monday.

While the Army and BSF have already appointed some sportsmen as its brand ambassadors, CRPF has sounded a few top sportswomen and short listed two of them, CRPF IG, Southern Sector, Hyderabad, N R K Reddy told reporters here.

He, however, declined to disclose their names, saying a final decision would be taken by the top brass of the force, after approval from the Home Ministry.

Reddy, who was here to participate in the passing out parade at the CRPF Training Centre on the city outskirts, said that as per intelligence reports Naxals were short of arms and ammunition, due to strong surveillance by the force at their possible supply point.

Casualties of CRPF personnel had come down sharply compared to the extremists, which was on the increase in the last two years, he said.
