Erode: A 22-year-old youth was arrested
for allegedly raping an eight-year-old minor girl near
Sivagiri area in the district, police said on Monday.
Suresh, a mason who was in an inebriated state, took the
victim to a burial ground at Nallisellipalayam near Sivagiri
yesterday and allegedly raped her, police said.
They added that when the girl, who is also the daugher of a
fellow mason, raised an alarm and started crying, people
passing through the area rescued her and handed Suresh over to
the police.
A rape case has been booked against the accused and he was
remanded to judicial custody today.
