Three killed as car rams into train at unmanned crossing in Tamil Nadu

Three women were killed and two others seriously injured when their car rammed into an express train at an unmanned railway level crossing near here on Saturday, police said.

Tirunelveli: Three women were killed and two others seriously injured when their car rammed into an express train at an unmanned railway level crossing near here on Saturday, police said.

The mishap occurred as the car driver tried to cross the track at Sengulam rpt Sengulam, 20 km from here without noticing the approaching Nagercoil-Bangalore Express.

The car was pulled by the train for more than 200 metres.
The injured persons were hospitalised, police said adding the train was delayed for more than 45 minutes due to the accident.
Officials said the car was torn apart under the impact and the dead and injured were rescued with great difficulty by fire service personnel.

The train engine was also damaged in the mishap, they saiid.
