Coimbatore: Seeking protection to their lives and belongings from frequent attacks by wild animals, nearly 2,000 estate workers went on a day long fast on Tuesday in Valparai and surrounding areas in the district, police said.
Workers said that incidents of elephant herds damaging houses of workers, petty shops and ration shops had become routine and appearance of other wild animals killing domestic animals left them in constant fear for their lives.
Meanwhile, a herd of elephants entered the habitats of workers yesterday and damaged their properties in Sincona and Valparai estates, police said.
