Akhilesh announces measures to modernise police

Emphasising on the need to equip police with modern techniques due the changing nature of crime pattern, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday made several announcements, including state of art control rooms in Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Allahabad.

Lucknow: Emphasising on the need to equip police with modern techniques due the changing nature of crime pattern, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday made several announcements, including state of art control rooms in Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Allahabad.

Addressing a function on the occasion of `Smriti Diwas`, Yadav said that strengthening police system was the priority of the state government.

"Crime pattern is changing, accordingly police should change rapidly and has to be trained in checking crime and new techniques of investigation," the chief minister said.

Yadav said that there was a need to organise special training programme during service as well and asked the Principal Secretary (Home) and DGP to chalk out an action.

The chief minister said that to give more promotion avenues to policemen, some posts of head constables will be upgraded to assistant sub-inspector level and existing posts will be increased.

Yadav also announced to increase Rs 200 in meal allowance and CUG sim cards to all sub-inspectors.
