Akhilesh Yadav names new CM office as 'Mukhamantri Karyalaya'

Setting aside the suggestion of Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik to name the new secretariat building under construction in the state capital as 'mantralaya', Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said it would be named as 'Mukhamantri Karyalaya'.

Lucknow: Setting aside the suggestion of Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik to name the new secretariat building under construction in the state capital as 'mantralaya', Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said it would be named as 'Mukhamantri Karyalaya'.

"I received the suggestion from the Governor to this effect but as the new building would house the CM office, its name would be Mukhamantri Karyalaya", Yadav told reporters after the cabinet meeting here.

Earlier yesterday, Naik had written a letter to the chief minister suggesting that the new building should be named as 'Mantralaya' in keeping with the tradition in other states.

In the letter, the Governor had said the words like secretariat reflected British mentality. "This building can also be called Sachivalaya but Mantralaya seems to be a better word as office of Chief Minister is proposed in that building."

The building should have a proper name as per the "pride and dignity" of the state, Naik said in his letter.

The multi-storied new building which will house the CM office, the state chief secretary office along with offices of other prominent departments, is likely to be completed by October.
