Ex-BJP MP claims close aide behind former disciple

Former BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj, who was booked for his alleged role in the murder of a former college principal, has claimed that a close aide of the victim was behind the killing.

Etah(UP): Former BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj, who was booked for his alleged role in the murder of a former college principal, has claimed that a close aide of the victim was behind the killing.

In a letter to Etah SSP Ajay Mohan Sharma, Maharaj claims that the former college principal Sujata Verma was murdered for money which she had received in a property deal and alleges that Samajwadi Party leaders were putting pressure on police to shield the accused actually responsible for the crime.

Maharaj alleged that Anil Yadav, a close associate of Verma`s, was behind the murder as he wanted to get hold of a sum of Rs 40 lakh which the deceased had reportedly obtained from the recent sale of property.

Verma, a member of the Juvenile justice Board and a former disciple of Maharaj who fell out with her guru, was shot dead on April 15 near the Shikohabad Road ashram of the former MP.

Yadav, who was reportedly present on the scene when the murder took place, had filed an FIR against four persons, including Maharaj and two of his brothers, Vijay and Ram Swaroop, of whom the former has been arrested.

Yadav was himself detained by the police but was later released. Maharaj, who is at present absconding, claims that Yadav was let off due to political pressure on the police.

Maharaj, a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Farrukhabad, had been accused of rape by a two women in 2000 and spent a month in Tihar and Etah jails over the matter.

He was cleared of the charges in 2001 for a lack of evidence.
