Lucknow: The minimum temperature in the Uttar Pradesh capital and other parts of the state has reduced sharply, signalling the early onset of winter, a weather official said here on Monday.

In the last three days alone, the mercury has dipped by over five degrees Celsius, the Met official informed. "There is a nip in the air during early mornings as well as the evening."

"If the present trend continues, winter would set in by the first week of November," said JP Gupta, regional Met director.

He said the minimum temperature on October 22 was 21.2, which by October 25 slipped to 15.5 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature, however, is hovering at an average of 33 degrees Celsius.
