Lucknow: Rubbishing reports that some of its
leaders had hired cooks and caterers during their visit to
Dalit households on `Gandhi Jayanti`, the Congress on Wednesday said
the allegation was "baseless".

However, some Congress leaders, on condition of
anonymity, said that a few leaders had done certain
arrangements.
"Some had also taken media teams with them for proper
coverage," they claimed.

According to a statement from the Uttar Pradeh Congress
Committee, the feast and night stay at Dalit houses was "a
grand success".

About 50,000 party workers and leaders took part in
programmes all over the state and the people appreciated the
programme, it claimed.

Reacting to reports in a section of media that some of
the leaders took outside help by summoning caterers and cooks,
UPCC administration incharge, Ranjit Singh Judev, in the
statement said the programme was "sponsored" and that the
allegation was "far from truth".
On the directive of UPCC president, Rita Bahuguna Joshi,
to emulate Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who
visited Dalit localities recently, many party leaders had
meals and night stays in underdeveloped areas on October 2.

However, as per media reports, some of the leaders had
hired caterers for arranging beddings, tents and generators to
make their night halts comfortable and had hired cooks for
preparing the feast.
