Tamluk: Nineteen persons were injured, four of them seriously, when police lathicharged to quell agitating supporters of Trinamool Congress over school primary council elections at Panskura in East Midnapore district on Sunday.
Police said the Trinamool workers were involved in a scuffle with security personnel as the elections were in progress and policemen swung into action when attempts to
pacify them failed.
However, Trinamool alleged the lathicharge was unprovoked and scores of its supporters got injured.
Police said 19 persons were injured in the melee and four of them referred to a Kolkata hospital.
Some persons were also injured in Moyna area of the district as the Trinamool raised similar allegations over the primary council polls.
