New Delhi: The Centre has not deployed
Railway Protection Force personnel for election duty in West
Bengal, where Railway minister and Trinamool Congress chief
Mamata Banerjee faces the high-stake polls.

"We have been asked by the Home Ministry to provide 50
companies of RPF and RPSF (Railway Protection Special Force)
for election duties in election-bound states except West
Bengal," a senior RPF official said.

There are about 85 personnel in one RPF company.

The West Bengal assembly election is crucial for Railway
Minister Mamata Banerjee though she herself is not contesting.

"While 15 RPF companies each have been despatched to
Assam and Tamil Nadu, 15 more companies would be sent to Tamil
Nadu in the second phase on April 1 for assembly elections,"
said the official.

Five RPF companies would also be deployed in Kerala for
the elections.
