Siliguri: Two top militants of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation were arrested by the West Bengal police on NH 31 on Sunday.
KLO vice chairman Tom Adhikary and its finance secretary Nilambar Rajbanshi were confronted by the Special Operation Group of the police when they were riding a motor-cycle at Lichubagan village this afternoon, IG, north Bengal, Jawed Shamim said.
Fifty SIM cards, two pistols and seven cell phones were seized from the two, linked with several subversive activities including last December`s Jalpaiguri cycle-bomb blast which left five persons dead.
They are also suspected to have been involved in many extortion cases in north Bengal recently, Shamim said.
Founded in 1995, the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation is agitating for a separate state in north Bengal and is suspected to receive help from the ULFA in Assam.
