Objects found in Falaknuma Express found to be low-intensity landmines

The unclaimed pipe-like objects recovered from a vacant compartment of Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express at Howrah Station on Tuesday night were found to be low-intensity landmines, a senior CID official said.

Howrah: The unclaimed pipe-like objects recovered from a vacant compartment of Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express at Howrah Station on Tuesday night were found to be low-intensity landmines, a senior CID official said.

Taking over the case from Howrah GRP, the CID thoroughly examined the items found in the unclaimed baggage today and concluded that these were low-intensity landmines.

They immediately took the items to an isolated place and defused two, while the rest were also being defused one by one, the CID official said.

The close circuit TVs of the station's platform, where the train arrived last night was also being monitored to see if the carrier of the bags could be identified.

The five-six unclaimed pipe-like objects, wrapped in a polythene sheet in two bags, were found from a vacant general compartment of the long distance train after it arrived at Howrah Station last night.

A senior GRP official earlier said the packet was discovered by the railway staff during a routine check before cleaning the coach once the train arrived at platform 17.

The movement of local and long distance trains from different platforms in the busy railway junction remained unaffected.
