18 conscripts injured in roadside blast in Egypt

 A roadside bomb today exploded near a bus carrying a number of conscripts, injuring 18 of them in Egypt's restive North Sinai area.

Cairo: A roadside bomb today exploded near a bus carrying a number of conscripts, injuring 18 of them in Egypt's restive North Sinai area.

Security forces cordoned off the area and the ambulances rushed to the spot to transfer the injured after the blast in Al-Arish city, security officials said.

Sources said that 18 conscripts were injured due to the explosion that hit their bus.

Egypt's?North Sinai?has witnessed several violent attacks by militants linked to ISIS since the January, 2011 revolution that toppled the ex-president Hosni Mubarak.

The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013 by military following massive protests against his rule.

Hundreds of security personnel have been killed in the attacks since then.

The military has launched crackdown in the area, arresting suspects and demolishing houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
