Melbourne: Australian voters are flooding back to a rejuvenated Coalition government under new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull who ousted Tony Abbott a month ago, a new opinion poll said today.

The latest Fairfax-Ipsos poll showed Labor's primary vote has plummeted to 30 per cent against the coalition's 45 per cent.

Almost 68 per cent of respondents said they approve of Turnbull's performance and 17 per cent said they disapproved, giving Turnbull a rating of 51 per cent overall.

The gap was 38-36 in Coalition's favour just two month ago, according to media reports.

The poll, first taken since Turnbull took over from Abbott, recorded the Coalition leading Labor on a two-party- preferred basis by 53 per cent to 47 per cent.

This is the largest lead the Coalition has held in the poll since it won the September 2013 election by the same margin.

The poll of 1403 voters was taken Thursday night to Saturday night and had a margin of error of 2.6 per cent, it is said that for the first time the government has led Labor since March 2014.

The Coalition, now under new management, has recovered almost all the ground lost since its landslide victory in September 2013.
