Athens: Greece is "leaving behind disastrous austerity" and the so-called troika of creditors "is finished", Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras said Sunday after his party won the general election.
"The verdict of our people means the troika is finished," the 40-year-old Tsipras said, referring to the country`s international lenders the European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank.
"The new Greek government will be ready to cooperate and negotiate for the first time with our peers a just, mutually beneficial and viable solution," Tsipras told thousands of supporters at the party`s main campaign platform in Athens.
