A policeman and three civilians were injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a security point guarding a church west of the coastal city of Alexandria in Egypt.

Cairo: A policeman and three civilians were injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a security point guarding a church west of the coastal city of Alexandria in Egypt.

The gunmen, who were on a minibus, opened fire on the church's gate, injuring the policeman and three civilians yesterday, officials said.

After the attack, the gunmen fled from the scene.

Egypt has witnessed many attacks targeting police and military personnel as well as civilians in the recent period.

The attacks have increased since the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Over 500 policemen and soldiers, have been killed in the attacks.
