New York: A 11-year-old boy in the US state of Georgia who made a prank call to emergency responders has been caught by his parents who not only made him write an apology letter but also took him to the police station to apologise in person.
"Last night I called and said 'Dezz Nuts' [sic]," the unidentified sixth grader wrote, according to an image of the message posted by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.
"I know this was stupid but I was not listening to myself but I knew it was wrong."
The boy explains in the note that his friends dared him to pull off the crank call, but his parents were not playing along, according to police.
The parents ordered him to write the apology letter and drove him to Savannah-Chatham County 911 Center on May 22 to tell the communications officers what he had done.
"I know there will be consequences for my actions and I will not complain about them," the boy wrote.
"What happened was that me and my friends were talking and I got dared to call you."
He added, "I am sorry for what I did and hope that you can forgive me."
The police spared the boy any more embarrassment by leaving his name off the bottom of the note on their website, but the personnel who greeted his parents that day graciously accepted the kid's expression of regret.
The staff even took the boy on a tour of the facility, showing him how they work and why tricks like the one he pulled make their important jobs much more difficult. That turned the trip into a "positive experience," but the kid's parents still have him on 'lockdown' at home, police said.
