Dangal in real life: Another Phogat girl beats boys for fun

New Delhi: Who hasn't heard of Phogat girls. The celebrated daughters of Mahavir Phogat — Geeta and Babita — are already darlings of Indian wrestling. The family's collective journey into stardom has also been made into a blockbuster Bollywood movie 'Dangal'.

But it seems there is not dearth of Phogat wrestlers who are destined to be famous. Another Phogat girl has just made her presence felt by beating boys across Haryana and Punjab.

Her name is Bhumi Phogat, a 12 year-old girl from Rithal village (in Rohtak district). According to reports, Bhumi has beaten male counterparts who are older and heavier in weight.

"I have lost count of the number of male wrestlers I have defeated," Bhumi was quoted as saying by TOI.

Interestingly, Bhumi's coach is her father Ashok – former national-level long jumper.

"The figure is more than 100," Ashok Phogat revealed.

Just like in the movie 'Dangal', Bhumi's regime starts early in the morning and she participates in different Dangals.

"On holidays and after school hours, I make sure Bhumi participates in different Dangals that take place in villages. She has won 90% of her bouts in Haryana and Punjab by beating male rivals, who have been superior to her in age and weight," he adds.

And Ashok's dream is to see his daughter win a Olympic medal for India. Bhumi now trains at the Chottu Ram Stadium in Rohtak, which has produced the likes of Olympic bronze-medallist Sakshi Malik.

Certainly, another inspiring real life story.
