Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters celebrated even before the results on counting day with the playing of Dhols at the party's headquarters in Pant Marg, New Delhi. The party fielded Dr. Harshvardhan from Chandni Chowk with Gautam Gambhir and Meenakshi Lekhi contesting from East Delhi and New Delhi respectively. Manoj Tiwari and Hansraj Hans represented the party in NorthEast Delhi and North West Delhi. Ramesh Bidhuri and Pravesh Verma further round off the list of candidates in South and West Delhi. Some supporters also performed Hawan Poojan for victory at the BJP's headquarters in Pant Marg, New Delhi. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the BJP on March 22 in the presence of Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat, Kolkata wore a desolate look ahead of the polling results which has rarely been the case. West Bengal with 42 Lok Sabha constituencies has the third highest number of lawmakers in the lower house of Parliament. West Bengal has been a Trinamool Congress bastion for the last several years and it is yet to be seen if there will be a change in the state's political leanings during Lok Sabha election 2019. The Kolkata police had further set up barricades outside Mamata Banerjee's residence. In the high-profile constituency of Diamond Harbour, Mamata Banerjee's nephew and Trinamool candidate Abhishek Banerjee is up against BJP's Nilanjan Roy while in Jangipur, former president and Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee is facing Trinamool’s, Khalilur Rehman. A supporter of Mamata Banerjee turned up outside her residence in Kalighat, Kolkata in a colourful attire. The TMC leader has recently emphasized on the Trinamool government's initiative to rebuild a bust of 19th-century Bengali icon Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar which was vandalised recently. The Trinamool Congress also expressed their desire to celebrate 200 years of Vidyasagar by hosting various programmes. Counting of votes underway at Gautam Buddha Nagar. Gautam Buddha Nagar registered 57.97 percent voter turnout in Lok Sabha Election 2019, a loss of 2.41 percent from 2014. The total number of electors in the constituency is 2297478 while 1331908 came out to exercise their franchise. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Mahesh Sharma from the seat, with the candidate emerging victorious in the 2014 elections as well. Bahujan Samaj Party, in turn, nominated Satbir Nagar with Congress candidate Arvind Kumar Singh also in the fray in the seat. (Image Courtesy: Pawan Tripathi)
