Farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh squatted on rail tracks on Monday (October 18) morning as part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha's six-hour 'rail roko' protest demanding the dismissal and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the violence in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri.
During the 'rail roko' protest, all train traffic was stopped from 10 am till 4 pm on Monday (October 18) as a result of which 50 trains at 130 locations of Northern railways were affected in the states of Punjab and Haryana.

In a statement, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions spearheading the agitation against the Centre's three agri laws, had said "protests will be intensified until justice is secured" in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.

The Border Security Force (BSF) was deployed at Bahadurgarh Railway Station in Haryana and the security arrangements were tightened to avoid any mishap.

Agitation resulted in disruption of the railway traffic at the Modinagar Railway station in Uttar Pradesh`s Ghaziabad district. The security forces of four police stations of Ghaziabad district were deployed along with a company of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) at the Modinagar railway station.
