Indian Premier League will soon finish its 16th season this month. The biggest T20 league in the world has seen some fantastic games. There have been many records being set and broken over the years. But do you know who has hit most sixes in a single over in IPL? Read on.
In IPL, or in any T20 tournament, hitting five or more sixes is not easy. The pressure to hit boundaries is more and the bowlers are always on their toes. Such moments happen very rarely when a bowler leaks 30 or more runs in an over in the shortest format of the match. Herschelle Gibbs has done it in an ODI but in few seasons he played in IPL, even he could not manage to do it. (Image source: Twitter)
Yuvraj Singh achieved a rare feat of hitting 6 sixes in a T20 game. He did it against Stuart Broad in 2007 T20 World Cup. But Yuvi could not repeat the same in IPL. In fact, in IPL, 6 sixes in an over has never been seen. The T20 league, however, has seen 5 sixes being hit in an over. Scroll down to know the batters who have smashed 30 runs in an over in IPL, only in sixes. (Image source: Twitter)
West Indian legend Chris Gayle ahieved this feat against Pune Warriors India in 2012 off the bowling of spinner Rahul Sharma. It was the 13th over of the innings when RCB batter went bonkers and hit Rahul for five consecutive sixes. Gayle did not play the first ball of the over or maybe we could have seen six sixes in an over hit for the first time in IPL. (Image source: Twitter)
Rahul Tewatia, playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR), scripted a memorable comeback when he smashed Punjab Kings' (PBKS) Sheldon Cottrell for five back-to-back sixes in the 18th over of the chase, in IPL 2020. Before this over, Tewatia was struggling to make the connection of bat with the ball. His personal score, before the 18th over, was 17 off 23 balls. His stunning comeback helped RR chase down a target of 224. (Image source: Twitter)
In IPL 2021, Ravindra Jadeja came to his brutal best as he smashed RCB's Harshal Patel for five huge sixes in the 19th over of the innings, taking CSK to a total of 191. (Image source: Twitter)
In this IPL 2023 game, Rinku Singh turned out to be the hero for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after he smashed five consecutive sixes off pacer Yash Dayal. Needing 29 to win from last over, Rinku hit five back-to-back sixes to seal the game for KKR, who were down and out in the match before this over. It was a memorable finish for KKR, this game being one of the greatest matches the league has seen. (Image source: Twitter)
