Chandigarh: Soon after the Punjab Cabinet meeting concluded, a state minister on Monday confirmed that no issue related to Cabinet Minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was raised in it.

"Punjab cabinet meeting was held, it was a normal meeting and no issue related to Navjot Singh Sidhu was raised," Punjab Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said.

Earlier in the day, Congress sources revealed that the party leadership had asked the Punjab cabinet to 'go soft' on Navjot Singh Sidhu despite his recent controversial comments - some directed apparently against Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Sidhu has come under fire since he said that Congress president Rahul Gandhi is the captain of captains. He has previously been facing criticisms from rival party leaders following his visit to Pakistan, second in less than six months.

The cricketer-turned-politician was in the neighbouring country for the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor but and was clicked with pro-Khalistan activist Gopal Chand Chawla.

Political rivals questioned Sidhu but the former cricketer attempted to defend by saying that he did not know who Chawla was. To queries on why he went to Pakistan despite CM Amarinder expressing his reservations, he said that 'captain of captains' Rahul Gandhi had told him to go.
