Guwahati/New Delhi: Violence in Assam took a more dangerous and disturbing turn after it came to light that deadly AK-47 rifles were used in the latest attack that left three people dead.
A shocked state government has ordered the seizure of arms in the Bodo belt of Assam.
“Assam is just like a volcano. You don’t know where what happens. Clashes keep occurring in the state whether in Kokrajhar, Karbi Anglong or Dima Hasao,” said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. "We have taken steps to maintain peaces...These kinds of things have being happening since long and sometimes there are such clashes. But we are taking steps to contain such violence," he said.
"Both external and internal forces are at work," Gogoi said without elaborating. Meanwhile, a special CBI team will reach the state tomorrow to probe violence in the state that has claimed 73 lives so far.
Indefinite curfew has been reimposed in Kokrajhar, while round-the-clock curfew continues in Chirang.
Army continued flag marches in the morning in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts.
In Delhi, the BJP is set to raise the issue in Parliament on the first day of Monsoon Session today.
