India's tour of Australia: In-form Gujarat pacer Jasprit Bumrah on stand-by

New Delhi: Gujarat pacer Jasprit Bumrah who has been in stupendous form with the ball has been put on stand-by for India's series against Australia starting from January 12.

Bumrah could replace Mohammed Shami who pulled his hamstring ahead of India's warm-up game against Western Australia XI on Friday. Shami's participation in the ODI and T20 series is on clouds as the injury will be assessed on Saturday according to reports.

Reports claimed that, Bumrah is understood to have been placed on stand-by as Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Rajesh Patel confirmed the development.

The 22-year-old Bumrah may have to be released from the Gujarat squad any time.

Bumrah has been on the selectors' mind for quite some time now. The Mumbai Indians bowler finished as the highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, as Gujarat emerged national champions.

He is also having a good time in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy picking wickets at regular intervals.

Further reports claim that Bumrah was selected as a stand-by option while the selectors were finalising the Indian squad for the five ODIs and three Twenty20s in Australia.
