Brian Lara hails cricket as the greatest game

New Delhi: West Indian batting great Brian Lara has thanked his parents and older sister Agnes for introducing him into the greatest game.

Lara, regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, shared a tweet, in which he said, "I played all sports but something in me said there is no greater game than cricket."

Legend is that, a six-year-old Lara was enrolled in a local cricket academy in Santa Cruz by his father Bunty and one of his older sisters, Agnes Cyrus, where his natural talent was refined.

The 46-year-old is currently playing alongside fellow legends in a three-match Cricket All-Stars Series T20 series between Sachin Tendulkar's Blasters and Shane Warne's Warriors in the United States.

In September, he joined hands with fellow West Indies sports icons in a cause to help cyclone-ravaged Dominican Republic.

In a glittering career, the majestic left-handed batsman Test 11,953 runs in 131 matches, including 34 hundreds. He also played 299 One-Day International matches, scoring 10,405 runs with the help of 19 centuries.

His 400*-run knock against against England at Antigua in 2004 is still Test cricket's highest individual score.
