Bhubaneswar, Jan 26 : The probe report on the manhandling of Indian cricket team coach Greg Chappell here last Monday has admitted to security lapses.
In his report submitted to Home Secretary T.K. Mishra, Orissa Police chief Amarananda Pantaik Wednesday accepted moral responsibility for the incident and made some recommendations to improve security of VIPs at the airport, said an official.
Chappell was assaulted from behind by a man, identified as Biranchi Moharan, soon after the team landed at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here. The man was allegedly protesting against the non-inclusion of an Oriya in the national cricket team.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered Director General of Police Amarananda Patnaik to probe into the incident.
The government will take necessary steps on the recommendations made in report, the official said.
Chappell, however, had not filed any formal complaint.
But police had on its own registered a case against Moharan and 30 members of Kalinga Sena including its leader Hemanta Ratha.
