Mumbai end day 1 at 19 for no loss. Mumbai will be looking to build a huge 1st innings total to put pressure on the depleted Saurashtra side.


MUMBAI Overs: 7 II Score: 17/0 (Jaffer: 10*, K Pawar: 4* )

Mumbai have started well. The ball is moving around a little and Unadkat and Trivedi have made the ball talk. The Mumbai batsmen have done well though to not lose any wicket. The experienced Jaffer and Pawar have both hit a boundary each. Saurashtra need some quick wickets if they are to have any chance in this match.

Saurashtra have been folded up by Mumbai for a paltry score of 148 all out. Aarpit Vasavada top scored for Saurashtra with 55 runs. Only four Saurashtra batsmen got to double digits.

For Mumbai Dhawal Kulkarni was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/24. Abhishek Nayar picked up wickets at crucial stages to make sure Saurashtra could never rebuild to get a decent total on the board.

Saurashtra have lost another wicket and this time its the captain Ajit Agarkar who has clean bowled Sanandiya with a perfect Yorker.

Saurashtra have lost another wicket, this time its Makwana who has fallen prey to Nayar. Undakat smashes Nayar for two consecutive boundaries. Saurashtra batsmen have been poor with their shot selection and have lost wickets all too frequently and will now struggle to put a decent total on the board.

Vasavada has been dismissed. Abhisekh Nayar, Mumbai’s trusted partnership breaker has delivered again. A shortish ball outside off stump which the btsman poked at and was very well held by Shah at slip. A very good innings from the left hander comes to an end.

Aarpit Vasavada has got to his half century. This has been a terrific knock from the left hander. He showed immense grit when wickets were falling all around him. He has played some delightful shots particularly on the off side.

Saurashtra have reached 100 runs and this is turning out to be a good partnership. These two batsmen have added 52 runs. Saurashtra still having to work hard for runs but have but have not lost any more wickets.

Mumbai have opened the post lunch session with two pacers. Agarkar has bowled well and is causing problems for the batsmen. Vasavada has shown a lot of patience and he needs to continue if Saurashtra are to reach a respectable first innings total. Makwana pulls off a brilliant cover drive off Agarkar for a boundary.

Vasavada plays a beautiful drive through covers for four runs off Thakur. Saurashtra would be hoping to have better session and would concentrate on not losing any more wickets.



Saurashtra went into Lunch at 51 for the loss of 5 wickets. It’s been Mumbai’s session this morning. Their bowlers have been very accurate and have made the most of this track. Dhawal Kulkarni was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 11.

Saurashtra will be very disappointed with the session so far. They have lost wickets all too quickly. Only Vasavada (23*) has shown the patience and the resilience to hang around and toil hard.

Jaydev Shah falls this time. The ball was nicely tossed up from Dabholkar, Shah flicks it from his pads but the ball goes straight to the man at short covers. Nice low catch taken by Hiken Shah. Saurashtra have lost half their side now.

Saurashtra have lost the big wicket of Sheldon Jackson. Dhawal Kulkarni who has been bowling a very tight line and length has been rewarded this time. The ball was bowled on off stump and Jackson poked at it only managing to get a faint edge through to the keeper Tare.

Saurashtra have lost the wicket of Sitanshu Kotak. This one from Dabholkar went straight with the arm and didn’t turn as Kotak expected it to and Jaffer took an easy catch at slip. The in form Jackson has walked out to the middle. Saurashtra need a special knock from this man.

Finally some runs are coming Saurashtra’s way. Vasavada’s miscued shot gets him four runs in between slip and gully and Kotak hit a beautiful cover drive off Agarkar for four runs. Spin has been introduced for the first time in this match. Vishal Dabholkar will be looking to keep up the pressure on the batsmen. It will be interesting to see what kind of an impact the spinners have on this pitch.

Saurashtras struggling to score runs but the good part being that they have managed to not lose any more wickets. Mumbai bowlers have been very accurate and have not given any loose deliveries.

Vasavada pulls Kulkarni for a boundary this time. Kulkarni trying another short one was the batsman was up to the mark. He pulled it with ease to the boundary.

Big appeal from Kulkarni for leg before wicket but Kotak survives.

Batsmen looking a lot settled now. Saurashtra have got past these five overs without losing a wicket. Mumbai bowlers have been on with their liner and length.

Mumbai bowlers are using the conditions pretty well and are creating a lot of problems for the batsmen. Runs have been very hard to come by.

Kotak gets a boundary off Thakur who strays on the pads once.

Agarkar and Tendulkar having a long chat about the field placement. The pitch has played well so far with good bounce and fair carry to the wicket keeper.

Dave gets out to a short one from Dhawal Kulkarni. Dave cannot control the bounce and he gets some bat to it which is taken at slip by Chavan. Saurashtra are in deep trouble now.

Vasavada comes to the crease now to replace Dave.

Saurashtra have lost the wicket of Jogiyani in the second over of the innings. Agarkar and Kulkarni are bowling a good line and length and are troubling the batsmen in the middle.

Mumbai: Mumbai will be looking to seal their 40th Ranji title with a win against a depleted Saurashtra in the finals at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. This is Saurasthra’s first appearance in the finals of the Ranji Trophy. Both teams are missing a few key players who are o national duty. Mumbai will Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma while Saurashtra will miss Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja.
