England women's captain Charlotte Edwards retires from international cricket

New Delhi: England's women cricket captain Charlotte Edwards on Wednesday announced retirement from international cricket.

She was the skipper of the side since the last decade, where she became the only player in history of English cricket to lead the country in 200 internationals.

“Everyone who knows me – and how much I love playing for England – will appreciate what a difficult decision it has been for me to retire from international cricket. It’s a decision I’ve reached after much thought and detailed discussion with Mark Robinson and Clare Connor about what is best for the team going forward," she was quoted as saying by ecb.co.uk.

She has led England to two world titles - the Women's World Cup and Women's World Twenty20 in 2009 - and three Ashes wins.

The Women's World Twenty20 was her last assignment with the team, where England made it to the semi-finals.

She is also the most capped player in the women's game, with 309 international appearances.
