ICC World Twenty20: Dale Steyn returns as South Africa snub Morne Morkel

New Delhi: South Africa's Morne Morkel was a surprise omission in the Proteas' squad for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.

Cricket South Africa on Wednesday named a 15-man squad for the World Twenty20 tournament in India next month and Morkel was dropped. Interestingly his brother Albie Morkel too wasn't included.

Morkel was a part of South Africa's Test and ODI squad against England and the Proteas left out the experienced campaigner for the coveted tournament.

Meanwhile, Dale Steyn's inclusion is subject to fitness as he has not played since suffering a shoulder injury in the first Test against England in December.

The Proteas named their squad after England and Pakistan too revealed theirs earlier on the day. After Stuart Broad and Ahmed Shehzad, Morkel's name was the third big omission of the day.

South Africa: Faf du Plessis (captain), Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock (wkt), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Chris Morris, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Dale Steyn, David Wiese.

South Africa will use the same squad in two Twenty20 internationals against England on February 19 and 21 as well as three matches against Australia between March 4 and 9.
