Lucknow: In a face saving measure for party president Nitin Gadkari, BJP on Saturday evening decided to suspend the primary membership of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam accused and former UP minister Babu Singh Kushwaha.
The BJP, however, has denied that the decision is a ‘face-saver’. The decision came in the wake of Kushwaha’s letter in which he had asked the BJP to put on hold his membership till he is cleared of all the charges.
Defending himself on all the charges, Kushwaha said that his name is being dragged in controversy deliberately. He termed his implication in the case as ‘politically motivated’ for opposing 4.5% minority reservation from the Other Backward Castes (OBC) quota.
Kushwaha also said that he was ready to face probe by any independent agency.
Meanwhile, Congress has termed his suspension as a mere drama and accused that Kushwaha wrote the letter at the behest of Nitin Gadkari.
Hitting out at BJP for inducting former BSP minister Babu Singh Kushwaha accused in a health scheme scam in Uttar Pradesh, Congress today accused the opposition party of having specialised "in hypocrisy and preaching without practice".
"BJP has many specialisations. Hypocrisy is one of them. Preaching without practice and making a distinction where there is no difference. This falls in the last category," party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said. He said BJP was compounding its case by making a distinction without difference by declaring that it will not give nomination to Kushwaha though he will continue to be in the party.
He also dismissed BJP`s criticism that CBI raids were carried against Kushwaha only after he joined BJP, pointing out that it was its senior leader Kirit Somaiya who had given documents regarding the NRHM fund irregularities in Uttar Pradesh in whose connections raids were carried out against Kushwaha.
