`Pak-Afghan border haven for training terrorists`
A senior Army officer said areas in and around the Pakistan-Afghanistan border are `safe havens` for training terrorist organisations in Asia.
Chennai: A senior Army officer on Tuesday said areas in and around the Pakistan-Afghanistan border are `safe havens" for training terrorist organisations in Asia.
"There was never governance in Afghanistan until 2005...
you find this entire belt along the border...Earlier also, all
training of terrorist activities or terrorist organisations
were taking place from that area," Major General NS Jamwal,
Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
Kerala and Karnataka area, told reporters on the sidelines of
a seminar at the University of Madras.
"The whole thing is that radicalised and it (training
terrorist organisations) is spreading its wings all ove...and
has come deep into Pakistan.... this region is safe for them.
You don`t require a visa to go to Afghanistan. It is a safe
haven (for these activities)," he added.
He replied in the affirmative when asked whether terrorist forces in Asia are being trained there and said these organisations "have received funds for training from all over the world."
