Kolkata: Even as the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders relaxed playing golf, Mumbai Indians, who checked in this afternoon, had an optional practice with a determined Ricky Ponting sweating it out at the nets at the Eden.
Struggling for form, the Aussie legend, who is the Mumbai Indians skipper, spent about an hour at the nets while wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was among those who turned up at the optional session on an overcast evening. Ponting`s last five outings read a miserable 4, 14, 0, 6 and 28, the last vs Royal Challengers Bangalore being his highest so far. Approaching another milestone, Sachin Tendulkar, who will turn 40 on the match day (April 24), preferred to stay confined at the hotel. Tendulkar returned to form with a half-century in MI`s loss to Delhi Daredevils last night and head coach John Wright said, "Sachin looks in form but we have to perform as a team to be successful." The CAB, in a press release, had earlier stated their plans to make Tendulkar`s birthday a big occasion by cutting a 40-pound cake. PTI
