Gorakhpur: Encephalitis claimed 10 more lives in Uttar Pradesh in the last two days, taking the toll due to the disease to 329 this year, officials said on Saturday.
State Chief Secretary Anup Kumar Mishra today visited BRD Medical College Hospital and Subhash Chandra Bose District Hospital where hundreds of patients are undergoing treatment for the disease. In view of the high inflow of patients, Mishra said that a separate ward of 100 beds has been earmarked in BRD MCH for those suffering from encephalitis. He assured additional staff and medical facilities for the hospital to cope up with the high number of cases.
He also held a meeting with district health officials and instructed them to launch sanitation and mosquito control drive in affected areas. PTI
