Mumbaikar Pranav Dhanawade creates history with 1009-run knock in single innings

The 15-year-old student of KC Gandhi High School, Kalyan, has broken a 116-old cricketing record with his incredible knock.

Mumbai: Mumbai cricketer Pranav Dhanawade on Tuesday entered history books, as he smashed 1009 runs in a single innings, making him the first batsman to do so in the history of the game.

The 15-year-old achieved this incredible feat in the Bhandari Trophy, an Under-16 inter-school tournament, at Union Cricket Academy ground in Kalyan.

The wicketkeeper-batsman got to 100 runs off 323 balls. Dhanawade was unbeaten on 1009* when his team finally declared on 1465.

Son of an auto-rickshaw driver, Pranav amassed 870 runs from 59 sixes and 129 fours.

On Monday, he remained unbeaten on 652 thereby breaking the record of AEJ Collins who scored an unbeaten 628 in a club match in England in 1899.

He is a wicketkeeper-batsman and considers India's ODI skipper MS Dhoni as his idol.

"I have always been a big-hitter,” Pranav was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

“When I started I never thought about breaking the record. The focus was never that. I just played my natural game, which is to attack from the word go,” he further added.

“I reached there as he was just reaching the milestone of 300. I was nervous throughout, but was just happy to see my son batting,” said his father Prashant who was working and had to rush to the ground on Monday after being told about his son's exploits.
