New Delhi: Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will join other luminaries of sporting world – both past and present – at the 2015 Laureus World Sports Awards. The Shanghai event will be broadcast live to over 100 countries around the world.

Already in the Chine metropolis, the batting maestro tweeted a photograph of himself along with Kenyan long-distance track and road runner Tegla Loroupe, and Chinese basketballer Yao Ming.

Like in the previous edition, the Oscars of Sport will be hosted by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who received accolades for playing scientist Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. The star-studded event, to be held later today, will honour the best in sports.

Li Na, Serena Williams, Valerie Adams, Marit Bjorgen, Genzebe Dibaba, and Tina Maze will fight for the Sportswoman of The Year. In the men's section, Cristiano Ronaldo will compete against Rory McIlroy, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, Marc Marquez and Renaud Lavillenie.

There will be awards for Team of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year, Comeback of the Year, Sportsperson with a Disability of the Year, Action Sportsperson of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Exceptional Achievement, Spirit of Sport and Sport for Good awards.
