Cricket became a lot poorer this year, with several legends deciding to draw curtains to their illustrious careers. Soon after Australia won the ICC World Cup 2015, several cricketers announced retirement from world cricket. Indian cricket fans were left heartbroken as Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag announced retirement from international cricket. Here are some other big names from different sports who retired this year.

Michael Clarke (Australia-cricket)

The Australian skipper retired from Test cricket on August 23, 2015 after Australia's Ashes series loss against England. He had earlier retired from ODIs after the ICC World Cup in April.

 Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka-cricket)

The Sri Lankan legend ended his journey in international cricket after the second Test against India on August 24. Sanga scored 12,400 runs from 134 Test matches.

Zaheer Khan (India-cricket)

On October 15, Zaheer Khan issued a statement announcing retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. Zaheer was India's fourth highest wicket taker.

Virender Sehwag (India-cricket)

One of India’s greatest opening batsmen Virender Sehwag announced on October 20, that he will be retiring from all forms of international cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rio Ferdinand (Former Manchester United and England defender)

On May 30, former England and Manchester United defender announced his retirement from football. He played his last season with QPR in the Premier League.

Raul Gonzalez (Former Real Madrid and Spain forward)

The former Real Madrid and Spain legend announced he is going to retire from professional football next month.

Arvind Bhat (India-badminton)

The former national champion and 2014 German Open winner, Arvind Bhat retired from international badminton on November 21, 2015.
